“The level of (environmental) urgency is higher than the media is letting on.”

Soil doctor Emmanuel Bourguignon works as the director of development at the Laboratoire d’Analyses Microbiologiques des Sols (LAMS)—the laboratory of microbiologic soil analyses. This independent laboratory was founded in 1990 by his parents, Claude and Lydia Bourguignon, who pioneered soil health and protection, and its role in the stability of terrestrial ecosystems. For over 20 years, they raised awareness about soil preservation. Bourguignon studied soil science in the UK then completed a Master’s Degree in soil microbiology at the University of Nancy, followed by a Ph.D. at the Bio-Protection Research Centre (Lincoln University, NZ) focusing on the ecology of soil fungi. He subsequently joined LAMS in 2008, as a consultant in soil microbiology, ecology and agronomy. With his family he founded Domaine Laroque d’Antan in Cahors, which has now garnered international recognition.

Three things you’ll learn from this podcast:

> Why microbiological soil analysis is becoming increasingly important.
> Why the Netflix movie “Don’t look up” may not be far from reality.
> Why in the long run, farming organically might not be an option anymore.
